If you are separated from someone and have children together, contact arrangements can be a very emotive and difficult subject. Christmas is a time when normal arrangements may show extra strain, particularly during a worldwide pandemic.

Children are often greatly affected by marriage and relationship breakdown, even when life has settled, with particular times of the year causing emotional upset. It is therefore important to be prepared and have agreements in place well in advance so each party knows where they stand, and the best arrangements can then be made. Read more…

Dawlish College Stationery Donation

Gilbert Stephens has joined forces with Devon Commercial Stationers this year, who kindly donated some stationery to us in support of Dawlish College’s shoebox donation. Yesterday, Dana Mulligan, Marketing Manager at Gilbert Stephens was greeted by Beck Tallamy who received the stationery on behalf of Dawlish College this year. Helen Clegg, Solicitor at our Exeter office, has been instrumental in co-ordinating this collaboration and we are delighted to support their charity endeavours, which will be included in their Christmas shoeboxes, destined for Moldova. Bid to reduce backlogs in the civil and family courts a step in the right direction

Measures to tackle backlogs in the civil and family courts and tribunals services by recruiting hundreds of additional staff and boosting court capacity have been welcomed by the Law Society of England and Wales.

While there has been progress in the family and civil courts, in late September there were more than 45,000 outstanding cases in the employment tribunals.* Read more…

Advantages and Disadvantages of Moving to the Countryside

As people take advantage of the Stamp Duty break, which ends on 31st March (read about that here), more appear to be leaving the city life behind and upsizing in the countryside. Covid-19 may have impacted these decisions with people wishing to live in less condensed areas and perhaps have found a new love of the countryside during lockdown.

Though there are many positives to gain from countryside living, it does also have some disadvantage.  Read more…

Following the horror of WWII, when nations across the globe again allied to fight for their freedom, Armistice Day became Remembrance Day, and we now mark this date by remembering all of the veterans and those who sacrificed themselves in all conflicts. This formative event in our world history ended with the laying down of arms at eleven o’clock in the morning; the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918. Read more…

The Sleigh is well recognised locally and travels raising money for local charities, it has also picked up donations for the local Food Bank, something that is needed more than ever this year.
