STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) is the leading worldwide professional body for practitioners in the fields of trusts, estates and related issues. STEP members help families secure their financial future and protect the interests of vulnerable relatives. STEP promotes the highest professional standards through education and training, leading to widely respected professional qualifications.
STEP aims to promote the highest professional standards through education and training. STEP Diplomas and Foundation Certificates are widely recognised and its members are highly valued by employers. The STEP Foundation Certificate is designed for students who are either new to the field or currently employed in administrative or clerical positions in the trust and estate field. The STEP Diploma is tailored for professionals who wish to specialise in the trust and estate field.
STEP also actively assists continuing professional development among its members through publications, special interest groups, courses, and national and international conferences and seminars.
All STEP members are subject to an extensive Code of Professional Conduct. Members are required at all times to act with integrity and in a manner that inspires the confidence, respect and trust of both clients and the wider community.
Full members of STEP are entitled to refer to themselves as Registered Trust & Estate Practitioners and use the designation TEP. Choosing a TEP to advise you means that you can have confidence and peace of mind knowing that the practitioner has reached the exacting standards required.
Full STEP membership is limited to candidates who have either completed a relevant STEP qualification such as the STEP diploma. All STEP members must undertake continuing professional education, alongside the similar annual requirements of their individual professional qualifications, to ensure they are constantly updating their skills and knowledge.
All STEP members must comply with the STEP Code of Conduct and Gilbert Stephens LLP complies with the STEP Code for Will Preparation in England & Wales which individual STEP members must adhere to.
