On Thursday 29th September, the Young Professional Network held their September event at Urban Underground, Urban Burger’s underground cocktail bar. The event was arranged in conjunction with Urban Underground’s launch of their “Urban High Tea”. Their twist on the more traditional Afternoon Tea saw members enjoying “tea” inspired cocktails (and mocktails for those driving) from teapots.

Gilbert Stephens Private Client team, lead by Richard Walford, Partner and in conjunction with Hawksmoor Investment management ran a series of complimentary seminars across three locations in Devon throughout September 2016.
Despite the unusually hot weather the seminars were well attended with lots of questions raised and answered on the day. The Devon cream tea was also well received after the presentations and discussions in the sessions.

The annual Okehampton Agricultural Show was lucky to be held on a glorious day this year and local law & financial services firm Gilbert Stephens met many of the shows visitors offering them a refreshing glass of PIMMS, strawberries & cream or a locally sourced pasty. Visitors could enter a prize draw for a John Deere pedal tractor and this was won by an Okehampton resident for her young son. The team from Gilbert Stephens saw strong support from existing clients and met many potential new clients, for both Legal and Financial aspects of the business. The firm looks forward to its attendance at the Chagford show later in August.

A group from Gilbert Stephens including solicitors, support staff, management and Financial Services rode the 55 mile course of this years FORCE, Devon’s Cancer Charity, The Nello to help raise funds for this extremely valuable charity. Its work in supporting those affected by cancer, including relatives of sufferers is seen as vital in the fight against this terrible disease.

In a ruling by the Supreme Court on 11 March Kathleen Wyatt was given permission to make a claim for a financial order against her former husband Dale Vince, even though they separated in the mid 1980’s and were divorced in 1982. It is by no means certain that she will be successful but the case underlines the fact there is no time limit for ex-spouses to apply to a court for a financial settlement following a divorce – however weak their claim may appear to be.
