Gilbert Stephens team score a joint first at the Devon County Cricket Club Quiz night

13th July 2016

A big quiz night was held by the Devon County Cricket Club to celebrate the launch of their new souvenir programme brochure, sponsored by Gilbert Stephens. The event was held at the Sidmouth Cricket Club and going into bat for Gilbert Stephens were a team three keen lawyers. Although light on numbers but long in tooth, the team bowled into first place in a field of 15 teams.

The tiebreaker question: When Great Train robber Ronnie Biggs returned to Britain in 2001 he had been on the run for how many days? Fortunately, the teams knowledge of 1960’s prison breaks and some nimble long hand multiplication by one of our lawyers placed the firm within 100 of the answer, 13,068 days. This was enough to secure a decidedly unexpected victory and a good night was had by all.
