Richard read law at Cambridge and qualified as a Solicitor in December 1989, having completed his professional training in Exeter. He has practised as a Private Client specialist in both Exeter and Bristol.He joined Gilbert Stephens in 2000 and has been head of the Private Client Team since July 2003.
He has been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since April 1994, and was a member of the managing committee of its West of England Branch from 2001 to 2017.
Richard advises on all aspects of wills, probate and estate planning including trust and tax advice. His name appears in the Mencap List of Solicitors who give specialist advice to parents, relatives and carers on financial provision for those with a learning disabilities and is on The National Autistic Society directory of specialist solicitors.
Outside the office Richard sings with the Exeter Bach Society Choir, St Peters Singers of Exeter Cathedral and the choral quartet “Gallery Singers”. He is also a trustee of the educational charity St Wilfrid’s Trust.
