YPN Dress for Success

17th February 2020

On Thursday 13th February, the Gilbert Stephens Young Professionals Network (YPN) hosted a unique and exciting networking event with well-established Image Consultant, Pat Ayerst. Cheryl Staunton, Legal Assistant, Sarah Heath and Antonia D’Alessio, Chartered Legal Executives at the firm, were pleased to attend the fashion event which was held at Gilbert Stephens’ Exeter office.

‘Dress for Success’ offered an opportunity for YPN members to learn what colours compliment you best, how to dress for your body type and the latest high street stores you should be shopping in.

At 5:30pm, Sarah and Antonia, Committee Members of the YPN, welcomed members with delicious drinks and nibbles. The event kickstarted sharply at 6:00pm as Pat began to bring guests up to the front of the room and match their skin tone with different colour samples. Many were surprised to learn that they had been wearing all the wrong colours!

Pat advised that generally, the warmer your skin tone and eye colour, the darker colours you can wear. For example, people with brown eyes and tanned skin are better suited to khaki, burgundy and mustard colours, whereas people with lighter eyes and fairer skin look best in bright colours like fuchsia, cyan and royal blue which help to bring out their features.

Pat then assessed people’s body types and gave style tips on how you can elongate your legs, accentuate your waist and draw attention to your best features. Pat advises everyone that “colour and style can have a huge impact on how you look and feel. Don’t be afraid to jump out of the rut and find a confident new you!”.

Poppy Brimson, Audit and Accounts Senior at Old Mill Accountants, says “the YPN Dress for Success evening was really enjoyable – it was great to do something different. As always, it was lovely to catch up with familiar faces and meet some new people. Pat was really knowledgeable and I definitely came away with some useful style tips. Thank you YPN for once again hosting us, I look forward to seeing you all again soon”.

The YPN is a unique networking group for working professionals from various sectors which now comprises over 300 members. To keep up to date with the YPN and their upcoming events, you can follow their Facebook page here. You can get in touch with them via email at .
