On Tuesday 29th October, Gilbert Stephens Solicitors Young Professionals Network (YPN) held their bimonthly networking event at Exeter Queen Street’s newest restaurant and club, Pink Moon. This month, YPN hosted a wine tasting where members could enjoy sampling a wide variety of wines from all over the world.

Everyone gathered at Pink Moon Club at 5:30pm for networking, prior to the main event which commenced promptly at 6:00pm. As it’s nearly Halloween, many members of the YPN also came dressed head to toe in a variety of creepy costumes. Sarah Heath and Antonia D’Alessio, Chartered Legal Executives from Gilbert Stephens, came dressed as The Shining twins.

Unlike many other, more traditional, wine tasting events, Pink Moon got everyone involved in a competitive game of wine roulette. Players were divided into teams of four and given twenty poker chips, of which they had to spread across the roulette board. Kingsley Crocker, Operations Manager at Pink Moon, delivered a mysterious carafe of wine to each table for all players to try. After swirling, smelling and sipping each wine, players had to decide amongst themselves what type of wine it was and where in the world it came from. Players could divide their twenty chips across as many categories as they wished, so long as there were ten chips on the country and ten chips on the type of wine.

YPN members enjoyed tasting many different luxurious wines such as French champagne and English sparkling chardonnay, which in a restaurant would usually cost between £80-£100! Pink Moon also provided some delicious paprika flavoured popcorn, black olives, and tortilla chips to snack on in between each round.

After six challenging rounds, Kingsley announced the Blue and Green as the winners and each team took home a bottle of wine. The Reds followed closely behind in second place, and the Whites finished in third place.

Winner of ‘Best Dressed’ this year was a close tie between Cindy Yeoman, Estate and Apartment Block Manager from Whitton and Laing, and, Zach Maiden, Surveyor from Lambert Smith Hampton. The decision was made by a ‘Halloween dance off’ to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’. Cindy was then confirmed the overall winner and took home a bottle of wine.

Cindy says “being the competitive sort, I loved the roulette element to the wine tasting, it was a great way to learn about all the different wines. I was even more thrilled to win ‘best dressed’ – there were so many strong contenders!”.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Halloween YPN event, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. We look forward to seeing you again soon at our Christmas event.
