Welcome Caroline Parker, new Solicitor at our Sidmouth office

2nd April 2020

Gilbert Stephens Solicitors are delighted to announce we have considerably expanded our team of Private Client solicitors over the past few months. Today, we would like to tell you about Caroline Parker, new Solicitor at our Sidmouth office.

Caroline is a solicitor in our Sidmouth office and specialises in a broad range of Private Client work. She has particular expertise in building good, long standing relationships with clients and is happy to be able to provide some much-needed support through what can be one of the most emotional and stressful times of their lives.

After completing her law degree and Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Plymouth, Caroline started work at a local law firm in 2014 and then qualified as a solicitor in 2016.

We asked Caroline a few questions to get to know more about her day-to-day work and what brought her to a career in law.

What made you choose to progress your career with Gilbert Stephens Solicitors?

I trained as a solicitor with a South West law firm and after spending five enjoyable years there, I decided it was time to move on to somewhere new. I wanted to work somewhere that encouraged a good work life balance, supported the individuals that worked there, and provided a good quality of work. I could see the potential for this at Gilbert Stephens and so far, I have not been disappointed.

Can you tell us more about what you do day-to-day?

I work three days a week and on the days I am in the office, I start by picking up any urgent matters that need my attention and then attending to the work that I need to carry out. I like to plan my day so that I am able to prioritise effectively.

What drew you to this career path? Did you always know you would work in this area of law?

When I left University, it was not my intention to go into the Private Client field of law. I was approached by a recruiter to start within a Private Client team and to ‘see how it goes’. After some time working within the team, I realised that it was the area I wanted to specialise in.

What do you like about working at Gilbert Stephens Solicitors?

I like that I am able to help people at a time that is both stressful and emotional for them. It is sad to see a person upset, and as an individual all you want to do is take that sadness away. I feel fortunate that I can help with the ‘legal stuff’ while they focus on their own wellbeing and that of their families/friends.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in law?

If you want to go into law, then the best advice I would give would be to get as much work experience as possible. This will allow you to conclude if it is the career you wish to pursue.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

Out of office, I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my young daughter, who never fails to make me smile. I have always wanted to be successful in my career, but now that I have a daughter who watches everything I do, this is more important to me than ever. I hope to act as a role model to her and provide the encouragement she needs to pursue a career of her choice.

Gilbert Stephens would like to wish Caroline the best of luck in her work. We are very happy to have her on the team and look forward to seeing her accomplish her goals.
