Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club Awards

26th September 2019

Gilbert Stephens Solicitors are pleased to support the Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club and were delighted to be a part of the Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Awards ceremony on Saturday 21st September which took place at the Sidmouth Rugby Club.

Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club is a remarkable not-for-profit organisation that provides children and young people from the ages of eight to sixteen with training, activities and competitions that promote health and wellbeing. The club also gives its members training in vital first aid and lifesaving skills as well as beach and sea knowledge.

The evening was a celebration of the children’s individual and team achievements throughout 2019 to date, which saw the Youth Team reach the top ten in the British Championships, achieving three Golds, while the Nipper Team finished 15th in Britain, achieving three Golds – something to be truly proud of.

In addition to awarding the club team members many successes based on attendance, commitment, enthusiasm, achievement and leadership, awards were also handed out to recognise the coaches and volunteers without whom the club would not be able to continue to run so brilliantly.

Alexandra Croft from our Sidmouth office attended the ceremony and handed out badges to the children as they collected their awards and certificates. After the ceremony, Alexandra was delighted to sign up her two children, aged two and four, to the Sidmouth Life Saving Club. Alexandra says “with Sidmouth being a coastal town, sea safety is imperative, and the club is an engaging way to gain the knowledge needed in a social and supportive environment. It is also a great way for children to keep healthy and have fun. We are so lucky to have this amazing club on our doorstep”.

During the course of the evening David Manley, Chairman and Lead Coach of SSLSC, thanked the firm for their support as kit sponsors. Gilbert Stephens will continue to sponsor the club for the next three years and it was wonderful to hear what a fantastic summer they have had and how much the club has grown over the past few years, with thirty new members from the ages of eight to nine starting in May.

It was a truly incredible and rewarding evening seeing so many of the community getting together. The support the club receives was evident from the fact that all seats were taken, and people were spilling out of the room!

Congratulations to all who received awards and all who contribute to club in any way. It is such a great cause and we will look forward to seeing what 2020 brings!
