Showcase Ottery

On Saturday 20th July between 10am – 4pm, the Land of Canaan Park was a hive of activity as the community of Ottery St Mary came together in force for a special event organised by a small committee of independent volunteers in which various local companies showcased their services.

Gilbert Stephens Solicitors were impressed with the range of local businesses, charities, groups and organisations that occupied 50 plots with something to appeal to everyone over the course of the day. Pretty Muddy 2019

Exeter Property Circle Charity Garden Party

Gilbert Stephens Solicitors had the pleasure of attending this summer event in aid of The Exeter Chiefs Foundation & The Exeter City Community Trust, on Thursday 18th July at the delightful venue, the Double Locks. This event marked one year of the Exeter Property Circle and we were proud to be one of the sponsors.

We were pleased to be very well represented at this event with Nigel McKay, Cheryl Bolt, Carolyn McAndrew, Sukhi Mills and Helen Clegg all attending on behalf of the firm. Gilbert Stephens Solicitors are committed to these events and have two of their Property Team, Antonio D’Alessio and Sarah Heath, on the committee for the Exeter Property Circle and believe that this is a great way to encourage networking within the city. The Longest Day Ocean Challenge Event

Last weekend, Sunday 14th July, saw Sidmouth sea come to life and the beach awash with activity as the Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club hosted the 2019 ‘Longest Day Ocean Challenge’ event for the second time, following the success of last year’s event.

Gilbert Stephens Solicitors are kit sponsors for the Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club and are really pleased to be a part of this popular water sports event, which hopes to raise Sidmouth’s reputation as a water sports location and support the tourism business in the town. Read more…

Zero carbon by 2050 becomes UK Law

15th July 2019

The United Kingdom’s target to cut greenhouse gas emissions to ‘net zero’ by 2050 became law last month, Thursday 27th June. This will make the UK the first major economy to legislate to end its contribution to global warming, the Government said.

The target was announced earlier this month in a landmark decision by Prime Minister Theresa May who said, “we have made huge progress in growing our economy and the jobs market while slashing emissions, now is the time to go further and faster to safeguard the environment for our children. We must lead the world to a cleaner, greener form of growth”. Read more…

The Nello 2019 – Il Ventesimo

Gilbert Stephens Solicitors was delighted to put forward a group of cyclists in the 20th Nello Century Cycle Challenge, which took place on Sunday 30th June. In honour of its Italian connections, the 2019 event was dubbed ‘Il Ventesimo’ (the Twentieth).

Netball Tournament in Aid of Children’s Hospice South West

On Wednesday 19th June, Gilbert Stephens Solicitors competed in another Charity Netball Tournament at Exeter University.

The netball tournament was organised by PKF Francis Clark and the purpose of the tournament was to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West. The charity provides hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West. Examples of the care they offer include; respite and short breaks, a sibling service for brothers and sisters, emergency care, palliative care, end of life care and a bereavement service for as long as it is needed. Budleigh Salterton welcomes the Festival of Jazz and Blues

Gilbert Stephens Solicitors are looking forward to the long anticipated weekend of smooth and symphonic music at the Budleigh Salterton Festival of Jazz and Blues this weekend. It is a four day event that starts this evening and grooves through to Sunday 30th June 2019.

This is a new jazz festival for Budleigh Salterton. The town used to hold an annual jazz festival, but the last one took place in April 2017 and many local jazz and blues fans were sad when it suddenly stopped. Read more…

#ThrowbackThursday – Cupcake Day for Alzheimer’s Society

On Thursday 13th June, The Budleigh Community Hub hosted a Cupcake Day from 10am – 12pm to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The central aim of the Budleigh Community Hub is to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities of Woodbury, Exmouth and Budleigh. Julia Powell, receptionist at our Budleigh Gilbert Stephens office, baked a wide selection of different cupcakes and delivered them to the Hub with Sheila Woodland, Licensed Conveyancer and Emma Rayfield, Legal Assistant. The staff at our Budleigh office enjoyed the cake sale and stayed for tea, they also didn’t forget their colleagues as they bought lots of cakes to take back to them. Read more…

Promoting gender equality at work

On the 20th June, the Law Society and other professional bodies launch the Women in Law pledge at the Law Society’s international symposium on gender equality.

Organisations that sign the pledge are holding themselves accountable for driving gender equality in their workforce and helping to create a more diverse profession. Read more…
