East Budleigh Scarecrow Festival 2024

Recently, East Budleigh welcomed some new residents to the town in the form of scarecrows and we were delighted to be a sponsor for this annual festival!

Each year, village residents get their creative caps on and make their, really quite impressive, scarecrows which are placed around the village! We were even very kindly gifted ‘Gilberta’ to look after for the weekend! (Image below)

As well as an impressive display of scarecrows taking over East Budleigh, the village hall became the centre of all the action with refreshments, craft stalls, activities, cakes and much more for everyone to enjoy!

Music was enjoyed on both days of the festival with performances from local musicians, including the very popular East Devon Rock Choir and Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the scarecrow festival without the highly anticipated duck race, which took place on both days. This certainly brought out the competitive side of everyone as they cheered on their ducks in the hope of winning the grand cash prizes!

One of the most popular attractions in East Budleigh is  the bell tower which was opened for the weekend, allowing people to go up and admire the impressive rolling countryside views of East Budleigh. Some visitors were even lucky enough to have a go at some bell ringing!

Finally, to top off a wonderful weekend of fun, the very popular dog show and classic car rally took place on the Sunday, followed by the Songs of Praise service in the All Saints Church in the evening.

We were honoured to be able to sponsor this annual event, which not only brings the village together for some family fun, but also helps to raise money for the maintenance of the village’s beautiful church. We would like to extend a big thank you to the organisers and to everyone who got involved with the scarecrow festival. A lot of work goes into organising something like this and it was a fabulous day for everyone in the village.
